Skin Tag Removers

Skin tags (also known as acrochordon in more sophisticated medical terms) are mere extensions of skin epithelial lining that is usually no more than a few millimeters; however, in certain conditions, people may develop skin tags that are a few inches in length (up to the size of a large grape). Skin tag is a fairly common cosmetic condition (with an overall prevalence of about 25%) and is usually soft in texture. In majority of the cases, the color of skin tags is similar to that of skin; however, sometimes these may be a bit darker than your skin tone.

Besides commercially available remedies, you can always seek medical help to remove skin tags by electric cautery, freezing, introduction of ischemic injury and excision. One of the proven remedies to remove skin tags without any difficulty is Amoils that is made up of natural oils and can be used anywhere on the body with absolutely no side effects. It is also cost effective and free from irritants.



Dermatend is another effective product that is helpful in managing both the skin tags and the moles with excellent results on the skin; however, compared to Amoils it is not only a bit expensive but is also associated with late results.

Skin Tag DX


The herbal preparation- Skin Tag DX is an effective and quick solution for skin tags and is capable of producing quality results in short time frame. It is comparable to Amoils in terms of cost and efficacy.



Dermisil contains the correct concentration of effective herbal elements like Thuja occidentalis, Melaleuca alternifolia, and Ricinus communis that is helpful in managing skin tags and other inflammatory lesions of skin. It is fairly cost effective and known to produce quality results.



Apple Cider Vinegar


Apple cider vinegar can be applied via cotton ball on the affected area of skin after soaking the cotton ball in warm water for 15 minutes. Let the solution stand on face for 25 minutes and then wash your face with plenty of water to remove the skin tag.

Vitamin E Oil

Castor Oil


Another organic and highly cost- effective method for the removal of skin tag is application of mixture of castor oil and baking soda in a ratio of 2:1. The skin tag naturally comes off within a period of 2 weeks after drying and does not produce any irritation or long term side effects.

Tee Tree Oil


Tea Tree oil can be applied on the affected area of skin for a period of 3 days (at least 3 times daily). It is also used in a variety of beauty care and skincare products.

Duct Tape


Duct tape is another home remedy for easy and pain-free removal of skin tag. Apply duct tape on the affected area of skin and leave it on for a couple of days. Duct tape has an inherent property of pushing the skin to detach skin tag. Removing the duct tape after 2 days will eventually release skin tag as well.

Nail Polish


One of the simplest and proven remedy for the removal of skin tag involves application of nail polish on the skin tag. However, you may have to repeat the procedure at least twice a day for two weeks. Skin tag will be released with dried nail polish.

Dental Floss


Dental loss is widely used for the removal of skin tags and may take a few days to a couple of weeks depending how stubborn and big the skin tag is. For best results, tie the base of skin tag tightly with the dental floss (loose dental floss does not produce fruitful results). Here are a few tips to make use of this tip to the maximum.

  • Avoid using unsterile threads that increases the risk of infection several folds.
  • Do not cut the skin tags with scissors or blade that is highly associated with infection and bleeding.
  • Always use floss, since ordinary thread is incapable of removing the skin tag.
  • If you have skin tags on delicate parts of the body like groin, do not attempt to use floss without seeking advice from your healthcare provider.

Causes of Skin Tag

It has been observed that the tendency to develop skin tags run in families (if you have developed skin tags, chances are high that your siblings may also develop skin tags). Other common causes that increase your chance of developing skin tags are:

  • Friction or rubbing of skin against rough surfaces or against the skin itself leads to skin tags. Most common sites of appearance of skin tags include neck, elbows, underarms, underside of breasts and groin region.
  • As part of the aging process due to changes in the regenerative capacity of skin.
  • Changes in the biochemical environment of the body due to alterations in the secretion of hormones. For example, a lot of women develop skin tags during second trimester of pregnancy.

Although in majority of the cases, skin tags are symptomless and does not develop any troubling symptoms, but at sites where skin tags come in contact with clothing or skin, the risk of infection increases.
